Still alive! Sort of. *g*

It feels like forever and a day since I've had the chance to really do anything online at all, but here I am! Now what do I do? *grins*

I've been thinking for a while that it would be nice to attempt to write something more than the few little bits and pieces I have here. John/Rodney, Joe/David. Anyone have any prompts? I'll try my best to at least write a drabble for each.

With all the talk of warnings and stuff going on I feel I should point out that I prefer not to write any of the big things that people find triggery (rape, non-con, dub-con, incest, bdsm etc.) I also don't write mpreg, kid!fic, genderbenders or kink (other than maybe a very mild scene of bondage).

Now that that is out of the way, again, if anyone has any prompts, I'm in a writing mood. *G*

Second Verse

Second Verse (Chapter 3)
Stargate Atlantis
John/Rodney
Eventual NC17...most likely
Nothng triggery that I can think of - pretty fluffy really
"Am I the only one that remembers what happened the last time?"

Stepping into the lab with a polite cough John smiled broadly. "Are we ready to get down to work?"

Rodney frowned. "Colonel?"

Thayan narrowed his eyes at John. "Actually Colonel, Rodney was about to show me around Atlantis—it's been so long since I have had the pleasure to walk these halls."

"Great," John nodded, still smiling widely. "We can do a quick tour and then come back to the labs--"

John didn't get any farther before Thayan interrupted with a false smile. "Oh no, Colonel—I couldn't ask you to take time away from your duties. Rodney has been kind enough to offer to be my guide."

Rodney nodded as he stepped towards the door. "Thayan is right, Colonel. We'll be fine." With an incline of his head Thayan followed Rodney from the lab and down the hall. John was left listening to Rodney's excited words as he told Thayan about the things they had thus far discovered about Atlantis. Scowling at the spot where Thayan had stood only seconds before John stalked toward the door and started down the hall, following in their wake.

There was no way he was letting the man...ancient—whatever—steal Rodney. No, John shook his head, not stealing—Rodney wasn't his after all—but John didn't trust Thayan and Rodney was his best friend. He was just...looking out for Rodney that was all.

Okay, so he could admit that his intentions weren't quite so altruistic as that. He'd spent months trying to get Rodney to forgive him for the whole Chaya thing. Though in John's defense, it wasn't like she was evil or anything...she just...wasn't exactly honest with them.

John hurried his steps, beaming in triumph when Rodney and Thayan came into view. They were standing on one of the balconies looking out over the city, Thayan so close to Rodney they might as well be attached at the hip. John scowled, moving toward the door, intent on breaking up this little tête-à-tête.

Colonel Sheppard?

Stopping in his tracks and pinching the bridge of his nose with a growl of frustration, John reached up and tapped his comm.. "Sheppard here."

--

John growled in frustration. He had no idea where Rodney and Thayan were, having just spent the last two hours with Elizabeth going over mission reports from the past month that were to be sent out in the next data burst to Earth.

"Radek!" John called, seeing the small frazzled looking man coming out of one of the labs. "Have you seen Rodney?"

Radek pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose and smiled. "I believe he is still showing Thayan around the city, Colonel."

John bit down on the comment he wanted to make, forcing a smile to his face. "Right. You wouldn't happen to know what part of the city?"

Eyeing John for a moment, Radek crossed his arms, a smirk tugging at his mouth. Reaching for his ear, he tapped his comm and said, "Rodney, where are you?"

John could hear Rodney's tinny voice shouting through Radek's ear piece. He grinned knowing that Radek had just put himself on the line for him.

Radek rolled his eyes. "Yes, yes Rodney, you're very busy showing sexy ancient around city. Perhaps I should remind you that Elizabeth expects something from this visit - that doesn't include your personal life?" He smirked at the look on John's face. "Good," Radek said, nodding his head. "I'll see you back in the labs in a few minutes then." Tapping his ear piece off, Radek raised an eyebrow toward John.

John looked sheepish for a moment before clapping Radek on the arm and throwing a 'Thanks Zelenka' over his shoulder as he turned and jogged toward Rodney's lab.

--

Rodney apologized again to Thayan as they hurried back toward the labs.

"There is no need to apologize, Rodney," Thayan assured him, his hand finding its way to the small of Rodney's back once again. "I promised I would offer whatever assistance I could and I meant it."

Rodney grinned.

They both stepped through the doors of Rodney's lab, stopping as one to stare at the scene before them. John was sitting with his feet propped up on Rodney's desk, a laptop on his lap, fingers quickly tapping at the keyboard.

"What are you doing?" Rodney snapped, rushing over to grab the laptop from John, checking to make sure he hadn't done anything irreparable. His eyes widened. "What is this?"

John shrugged. "Just something I've been working on."

"You've been working on the jumper drives?" Rodney asked, eyes sliding toward John with a renewed spark of interest.

"In my spare time," John answered. He leaned back in his chair, arms behind his head. Rodney's eyes went back to the laptop as he began scrolling through John's work. John turned his eyes to Thayan an grinned triumphantly.

Thayan crossed his arms and frowned, his gaze moving from John to Rodney and back again before the corner of his mouth began to twitch into a smirk.

John's eyes narrowed as he watched Thayan, not liking the look on the alien's face. He was up to something.

Due this week I believe?

New Atlantis this month! I've got mixed emotions about it all, I'm not really one that's big on change :P but hopefully it'll all be worth it in the end.

I'm in desperate want of Joe/David RPS this afternoon. Unfortunately I've read and reread all that's out there. I'm craving something new. Even if I have to write it myself. ;)

So...anyone know if there's a place to find homeless Joe/David RPS bunnies? I want to write, I just don't know what to write. *g* I'm hoping there's somewhere I can find some RPS ideas that will spark a few ficlettes.

Torchwood

So....Torchwood. Disturbingly awesome.

I say disturbingly because honestly I was SURE that I would hate this show. I hate Doctor Who, I don't know, just...that whole 80s TV feel to it...I absolutely HATE it. So I was kind of expecting the same thing with Torchwood, even though I'd been told it was nothing like Doctor Who (call me a non-believer *g*) and I was so bloody HAPPY to find out just how wrong I was.

Captain Jack...OMGTHEPRETTY!
Jack/Ianto...OMGCANONYAY!

Their bad guys could use a little work but then--I think I'm spoiled by my usual SciFi having just simply fabulous make-up people that make their villians look REAL and not like they're wearing a big old rubber mask. *g* But considering what I was expecting, some bad make-up (or not necessarily bad make-up just...very fake looking "aliens") is definitely ignorable.

So. Yeah. Jack/Ianto. I am hanging out at jackxianto at the moment, cruising their archives in the hopes of locating some good fic. At the moment I've found three fic and a LOT of squeeing over episodes. ;)

I know my flist is really small at the moment, and I actually am not sure if any of you even watch Torchwood, but if you do--anyone have some Jack/Ianto recs??

--

And just because I feel like I'm cheating on SGA talking about Torchwood *grins*...

Cursed!

I'm convinced I have a curse upon me--cursed with bad betas. Or rather, slacker betas. Betas that agree to take on a story and NEVER actually beta it. And not only that, never bother to tell me that they aren't going to beta it, no explanation of why, just...poof, nothing. I might as well be sending these stories into the ether for all the good it does me to even attempt to get anything betaed.

And so.

::affects soup nazi accent::

NO BETAS FOR ME!

I'm giving up on even attempting to get a beta again. It's not worth the hassle, or the disappointment.

Slacker betas of the world, you can KISS MY ASS!

Rodney feels himself getting hard just from that look.

"We can't do this here," Rodney hisses, backing away from John as he stalks closer, all long lean lines and naked golden skin. Rodney's eyes fall to John's cock, standing hard and proud and he knows he's a goner even as his back hits the wall.

John doesn't say anything, just reaches for the button on Rodney's pants. Rodney's breath hitches and he bats John's hands away stripping himself faster than John can as he mutters, "Okay, okay--but if any of our wedding guests walk in here..."

John presses his full body against Rodney, lets his leg slip between his husband's and grins. "Shut up, Rodney," John murmurs, lowering his head to Rodney's bare shoulder, "you're ruining the honeymoon."

Rodney snorts, wrapping his arms around John and leaning his head back against the wall to give John better access to his neck. "If you think fucking in the coat check room at the Hilton in the middle of our wedding reception with 75 of our closest friends in the next room constitutes a honeymoon..."

John drops to his knees and anything else Rodney was going to say dies on his lips. With a cocky smirk, John leans in and nips Rodney's exposed hip, hands sliding up Rodney's thighs. "This is just the pre-game," John mumbles against Rodney's hip with a grin that promises more.

Stay
Stargate Atlantis
John/Rodney

"Stay,” John hisses, his fingers laced tightly through Rodney’s. Rodney raises his eyes, mouth red and swollen as he swallows and lets himself be pulled up to lie next to John.

"It's almost dawn," Rodney whispers.

John nods, pressing himself closer to Rodney, eyes still a little sex-glazed as he throws a leg over Rodney's hip. "There's time," John mumbles sleepily, burying he face against Rodney's neck.

Rodney pulls John closer, breathes in and smiles--he's still surprised that John likes to cuddle after sex. "Alright," he whispers, "I'll stay."

John burrows closer, pressing a kiss to Rodney's neck. "Good."

Anniversary
Stargate Atlantis
John/Rodney

Rodney huffed impatiently as he stalked down the hall towards John's quarters. John knew he had important simulations running, that he didn't have time for...whatever John had planned.

"Fine. Yes, I'm here," Rodney snapped into his comm.

"Close your eyes."

"Sheppard," Rodney growled.

"Just do it, McKay."

Muttering under his breath, Rodney did as he was told. He could feel the doors swish open and felt a hand grab his wrist. "This is ridiculous."

"Shut up," John whispered close to Rodney's ear making him shiver.

"John..."

"Open your eyes."

Rodney opened his eyes to a room glowing in candle light, a table set for two.

"Wha--?"

"Happy Anniversary," John mumbled, pulling Rodney into a long, slow kiss.

Second Verse...Same as the First(Chapter 2)
Stargate Atlantis
John/Rodney
"Am I the only one that remembers what happened the last time?"

______

John's eyebrows rose in surprise. "Yes? That's it?" He expected a little more cloak and dagger.

"It has been many years since I have seen Atlantis, Colonel. My place is here, among my people."

"So you were banished too?" John asked, inexplicably happy at the thought.

"No," he chuckled. "I chose to stay, to provide for and protect the Nerians."

"And the other ascended don't stop you?" Rodney asked curiously.

"The others have long since moved on from our space and there are many more important matters for them to be concerned with. I am but a petty annoyance that they do not have the time nor inclination to bother with. As long as I protect and provide for my people alone, the others have let me be." Thayan placed a hand on Rodney's. "I would very much like to hear news of Atlantis and of the first world."

"The first world--" John began.

Thayan sighed, turning to John again but not removing his hand from Rodney's. "You are not of this place and yet I can sense within you a tie to 'the ancients' as you call us--the last of my kind abandoned our great city to return to the first world long ago." He turned back to Rodney. "You have returned to fill the city with life once more."

John bristled before clearing his throat and smiling with false politeness. "Thayan, would you excuse us for a moment?" John stood and gestured back towards the gate they had stepped through when entering the temple. "Rodney--a word?"

Reluctantly Rodney stood and followed John, turning to glance back at Thayan with a smile. "We'll be right back."

John grabbed his arm and pulled him away as Teyla and Ronon closed ranks behind them, following in their wake. "I don't trust him," John blurted when they were out of earshot.

Rodney snorted, folding his arms across his chest. "And is that because he's not a woman batting her eyelashes at you or is it because he's a man not batting his eyelashes at you?"

"Dammit Rodney!"

"Colonel, he has done nothing to earn your distrust. Unlike Chaya, Thayan is not hiding the fact that he's an ancient."

"That's not the point! I just have a bad feeling about him," John growled, running a hand through his hair.

Rodney turned to Teyla and Ronon. "What do you think?"

Teyla gave John an apologetic look. "I do not believe Thayan means us harm."

Rodney nodded. "Good enough--Ronon?"

Ronon shrugged. "I like him."

Grinning widely Rodney turned back to John. "Apparently it's just you that has a problem with him, Colonel. One I am not entirely convinced isn't simply a result of you being--"

"I am not jealous!" John hissed, narrowing his eyes at Rodney.

Smirking Rodney turned back towards Thayan. "Then there is no reason we shouldn't invite Thayan back to Atlantis."

"What?!"

"Look Colonel, there's the chance that, seeing as how he has openly admitted to being an ancient, he'll be willing to help us in the fight against the Wraith or at the very least help us find or better yet recharge a ZPM." Rodney huffed as he turned back to face John. "If it makes you feel better you can assign a guard to him at all times while he's in the city."

"No one is supposed to know the city is still standing," John pointed out. "Also--a guard? If he is an ancient Rodney what exactly is a guard going to be able to do to him? It's too dangerous," John said with a shake of his head.

"You had no problem bringing Chaya back to Atlantis," Rodney replied, crossing his arms again and narrowing his eyes.

"That was different! The Wraith didn't think Atlantis was gone and we didn't know she was an ancient!"

"So you're telling me if you knew before hand that she was an ancient you wouldn't have invited her back to Atlantis?" Rodney asked with an incredulous laugh.

"Rodney..."

Rodney waved at him dismissively. "We should contact Elizabeth and see if she believes it's worth the risk."

Of course Elizabeth agreed with Rodney and Thayan happily accompanied them back to Atlantis. John tried to guilt him into staying—after all should he really be leaving his people unprotected? Rodney’s eyes lit up when Thayan explained that before he had ascended he was a scientist; that he had built a shield that would protect the planet in his absence. John clenched his teeth and told Rodney to dial the gate.

Thayan was polite and open with Elizabeth in the debriefing, assuring her and Rodney—whose side he refused to leave—that he would help them in whatever way he could. Of course that didn’t include doing anything that would alert the other’s to his activities.

After the briefing was over Rodney grabbed Thayan by the wrist and all but dragged him from the room and towards the labs, a stream of words pouring from his mouth much to Thayan’s amusement and John’s annoyance. John forced himself to follow at a leisurely pace, determined not to come off looking like the jealous boyfriend. Especially since he wasn’t actually dating, nor had he ever dated, Rodney McKay.

When John neared the doors to Rodney’s lab he could hear Thayan speaking quietly. “It has been so many years since I have been here—could this not wait? I was hoping you would accompany me on a tour of the city.”

“Well,” Rodney hesitated and John could see him clearly torn as he looked from Thayan to the ancient gizmos spread across his lab table.

He could see the moment Rodney caved; Thayan placing a hand at the small of Rodney’s back, whispering, “I promise we will return—I will help you in whatever way I can, Rodney.”

John’s jaw clenched and his teeth hurt when he saw Rodney nod, a lop-sided smile tugging at his lips. “Alright—I guess this can wait for a little while more.”

Second Verse...

Second Verse...(Chapter 1)
Stargate Atlantis
John/Rodney, Rodney/OMC
"Am I the only one that remembers what happened the last time?"

______

"The Nerians are a peaceful people that the Athosians have traded with for many generations, Doctor McKay," Teyla smiled serenely as they were led towards the village to speak with Seras the village leader.

Rodney rolled his eyes, "I can't tell you how comforting that is."

"Rodney," Sheppard drawled with an underlying hint of warning. "If Teyla says they're peaceful people, they're peaceful people."

"Fine, they're peaceful people--wonderful." Rodney stuffed his scanner into the front pocket of his tac vest, pulling out a power bar and tearing it opened with his teeth. "Am I the only one that thinks this place is eerily familiar?"

"Yes," Sheppard smirked.

Scowling Rodney pocketed the power bar wrapper and squinted against the sunlight as they entered the village. The architecture was open; little more than a roof and frame, low lying bridges leading to what they assumed was the town square where a small group of men of varying ages stood smiling. They wore faded red robes that touched the ground, hiding their feet; their arms were hidden under large folds of material while their necks were adorned with strings of tiny wooden beads.

Seras stepped forward. "Greetings Teyla." He bowed, touching his forehead to Teyla's before waving toward the rest of the team. "You are all most welcome. Come."

They followed him onto the sheltered platform in front of them, Rodney grimacing at the pillows surrounding the wide circular table. "Seras, we are here in hope of trade," Teyla spoke, inclining her head before taking a place at the table. Sheppard, Rodney and Ronon all followed suit folding themselves onto the pillows provided.

"Ve'lar has blessed us with a bountiful harvest this season." Seras smiled widely.

"Ve'lar?" Rodney asked incredulously. "Here we go again."

"Rodney, shut up," Sheppard hissed, turning to smile charmingly at Seras.

"Ve'lar is our protector and provider," Seras answered solemnly.

One of the villagers stepped to Seras' side, whispering something in his ear. Turning back towards the table he rose from his seated position, bowing as he said, "I apologize, I must attend to a small matter at the temple. Please eat, drink--I shall return shortly."

Two Nerian women stepped onto the platform placing a tray laden with various fruit and one with wooden cups filled with an amber liquid in front of them before bowing and hurrying away. John raised the cup, sipping at it before gesturing to Rodney. "No citrus."

Rodney drank deeply, reaching for a shiny, red fruit and scowling when John slapped his hand away.

"I have never heard of Ve'lar," Ronon said as he cut into a deep blue fruit, licking the juice from his hand.

"Oh please," Rodney scoffed as he accepted the fruit Sheppard had tested for citrus. "There is no Ve'lar."

"McKay--"

"No, Colonel we are not doing this again. You know as well as I do that if there is anything or anyone here protecting and providing for these people it is either a ZPM or another ancient banished for breaking the rules."

"We don't know that for sure," John snapped. "Dammit, Rodney these people are willing to trade with us for some much needed supplies--don't screw this up by being paranoid."

"Am I the only one that remembers what happened the last time?"

"How could we forget when you're constantly bringing it up?" John raised his voice before taking a deep breath. "Let's just play this by ear, alright?"

"Fine."

Seras returned moments later, bowing deeply before straightening with a bright smile. "Thayan wishes to meet with you."

John raised an eyebrow. "Thayan?"

"High priest of Ve'lar; come he awaits."

"He?" Rodney smirked. "Well Colonel, I guess you won't be taking home any guests this mission."

John glared at Rodney before rising and following Seras up a worn path through the forest towards a large brightly colored temple. "So, Seras--how exactly did this Thayan know we were here and why exactly does he want to meet us?"

"All will be explained when we reach the temple of Ve'lar."

"Of course it will." John sighed.

Rodney snorted behind him.

When they stepped through the gate of the temple they were led to a courtyard filled with beautifully colored flowers and a bubbling fountain covered in intricate designs. Showing them toward a grouping of benches under a large overhanging tree, Seras disappeared inside, presumably to tell Thayan his guests had arrived.

John laid back on the bench crossing his arms over his stomach while Teyla perched gracefully across from him on another bench. Ronon looked around with a fierce scowl as if he expected them to be attacked at any moment thanks to Rodney filling him in on what happened with Chaya. (Rodney was pleased to note that Ronon had agreed with him--obviously Chaya shouldn't have been trusted.) John clenched his jaw and held his P90 a little closer, forcing himself not to let Rodney get to him. Rodney was wandering around, scanner in hand when Seras returned.

"Thayan will be with us shortly."

John rolled from the bench, the others gathering to stand next to him; all eyes on the archway Seras had just emerged from. Minutes later a tall, dark haired man adorned in a white robe similar in design to Seras' stepped out to greet them. He had dark eyes and a bright smile which he turned on each of them in succession with a slight bow before facing Rodney. "We bid you welcome to the temple of Ve'lar. May he bless and protect you."

Rodney stared, lips parted; the man was beautiful. His mouth turned up at the side as he stepped forward. "Thank you--"

Before he could say more John stepped in front of him. "Thank you. I'm Colonel John Sheppard." Gesturing behind him John continued, "This is Teyla, Ronon, and McKay," pointing to each of his teammates in turn.

Thayan inclined his head towards John with a polite smile. "I am Thayan, High priest of Ve'lar."

Taking a step forward and around John Thayan smiled at Teyla before turning to Rodney and placing a hand on his elbow gently propelling him back towards the benches. "We have traded with the Athosians for many generations but you--you are not Athosian."

Rodney shook his head, smiling crookedly. "No, we're not--we uh, we're from a distant planet."

"And yet you now live in the city of the ancestors." Thayan smiled gently, sitting beside Rodney on one of the benches.

John frowned, taking a seat across from Thayan and Rodney. "What do you know about the city of the ancestors?"

Rodney rolled his eyes. "I think that's rather obvious, Colonel." Thayan's eyes sparkled in amusement as Rodney turned to face him. "You're an ancient." It wasn't a question.

Thayan's smile widened, his fingers brushing over Rodney's hand as he moved them to his lap. "Yes."

Lessons Learned

Lessons Learned
Stargate Atlantis
John/Rodney
His balcony was hidden in shadows and he drank in the silence, the simple beauty of the star filled sky above him.

_____

The wind coming off Atlantis' waters was cool, making him shiver; making the itch worse. He could feel it still flowing through his body, could remember the power he felt, how clear everything around him looked--it was like the universe opening up for him, giving him its secrets.

His heart still pounded as he remembered the helplessness--on the planet, in the infirmary, on the Daedalus.

His balcony was hidden in shadows and he drank in the silence, the simple beauty of the star filled sky above him.

Carson had agreed not to tell Sheppard and the others about his overdose on the enzyme until he was sure Teyla and Ronon were fine--in truth Rodney needed the time to pull himself together. Going through withdrawal, watching your team get blown up only to find out they'd escaped...it was a lot to deal with and Rodney still felt a little shaky from the enzyme as it was--he didn't need a lecture.

Sliding down the wall he pulled his knees to his chest, wrapping arms around them and closing his eyes, breathing deeply the salt freshened air.

He couldn't stop himself from wondering as he sat alone in the welcome darkness if they had even remembered. If they'd remembered that they had left him on Ford's planet with his gaggle of drugged-out lackeys. If they'd even for a moment thought about whether he was okay before they came strolling through the gate after their miraculous escape.

Rodney had tapped into the security cameras when he'd returned to his room--watched the slight tremble coursing through Ronon and Teyla as they battled the remnants of withdrawal; watched the smirk on John's face as he greeted Elizabeth, the 'we're-not-dead...again' look firmly in place. He tried to tell himself that it didn’t matter, didn’t hurt that none of his team had even bothered to ask about him when they came through the gate but even being a genius, he couldn’t convince himself it was true.

He thumped his back against the wall. The truth was, he let them get too close, let the people here become friends, become closer than friends and in the end it bit him in the ass just like it had every other time he’d been stupid enough to open himself up to the same inevitable hurt. And the damn thing was, he never learned. He was nearing forty and he hadn’t yet learned that letting people in was a pointless exercise in masochism.

Pushing himself up off the balcony floor Rodney took a deep breath. This time would be different—he’d finally learned his lesson and he wouldn’t ever forget how much it cost him.

Fallen

Fallen
Stargate Atlantis
John/Rodney
Character Death
They never should have come back

_______

They’d just gone into the bank to grab some cash. Joking and laughing, bumping shoulders and enjoying their two weeks on Earth to the fullest extent possible. John planned to take Rodney to a football game; Rodney planned to keep John in bed.

John didn’t even have time to blink; Rodney was stepping in front of him, falling. John’s arms guided Rodney to the floor, pressing on his chest, trying to hold in the blood that was gushing from the gunshot wound.

A robbery gone bad—as if they ever went well.

John leaned over Rodney, begging him to hang on, telling him that an ambulance was on the way, his voice hoarse from screaming at someone, anyone to call 911.

There’s blood welling in Rodney’s mouth, choking him as he tries to say John’s name. His eyes are glassy, can’t stop roving, looking for John even when John is mere inches away.

John’s hands are slick and red, slippery when he presses harder, his mouth at Rodney’s ear cursing, telling Rodney he can’t die. He can’t fucking die.

The sirens are wailing in the distance and John whispers to Rodney, everything will be alright; he’s going to be fine; they still have a football game to go to.

When he pulls back to look into Rodney’s eyes, John’s throat closes around the scream. Rodney’s eyes stare blankly, his mouth smeared with blood, a half-smirk on his lips.

John’s mouth is red when the paramedic pushes him away. He doesn’t listen to them as he wraps his arms around his knees, feels the salty trail of tears on his cheeks, silently rocking back and forth.

They never should have come back.
